Synergy SYN-20IR

The EL84-powered SYN-20IR amp head is Synergy’s latest version of the popular range of ultra-flexible amps. They are each designed to take the two-channel tube 12AX7 preamp models, each with a different tonal character and based on many popular amp brands, including ENGL, Friedman, Peavey, Bogner, etc.

The amp head has built-in American-voiced Clean channel, making these amps three-channel amps.

They were first shown at NAMM 2024 and have finally received an official release (at the time of writing, there is no official information on the official Synergy website). The concept, which is super flexible and very portable, drew lots of attention at the show.

Flexible Design

Due to the design’s modular nature, the power amp will adjust itself to suit each module, ensuring it recreates the amp tones perfectly. This lunchbox amp head is super flexible and perfect for players who need different amp voices without the hassle of owning multiple amp heads.

This 20-watt EL84 amplifier features three switchable analog power amp structures, shaping the amp’s character to match your chosen preamp module. Mode A delivers clarity and punch, Mode B offers a relaxed midrange and bright highs, and Mode C provides a tight, modern feel.

Impulse Responses

The amp head also accommodates impulse responses with built-in IRs, custom uploads, or traditional cabinet connectivity. It uses Synergy’s low-latency IR technology and a balanced XLR output for direct recording and live performance. The amp will hold four IRs simultaneously; users can choose them from the front panel.

They also have accompanying software editor to dial in your ideal tone and load it via USB, making this amp perfect for players who love to tweak settings.

Once you’ve perfected your amp tones, save your settings and recall them instantly with the included 3-button MIDI footswitch. They also included a headphone out on the rear for when you want to play silently.

Verdict

This amp’s form factor and flexibility will be perfect for many players. However, the SYN-20IR requires a Synergy preamp module, which is not included in the price, so you will need to factor that into the overall cost of the setup.
