Synth Deals from AKAI, Novation and Yamaha
The AKAI MPC Key 37 just came out a couple of months ago, so it’s still hot off the press. But you can already get a great deal on the baby MPC keyboard! Other excellent software deals are coming from Novation and Yamaha this week.
AKAI MPC Key 37: Compact Keyboard Workstation
The rumor mill went wild earlier this year when pictures of a mysterious AKAI MPC surfaced on the web. The manufacturer finally made it official in early February: The AKAI MPC Key 37 joins the MPC Key 61 as a smaller alternative to the full-size MPC keyboard workstation. Perfect for on the go, or if you simply don’t need that many octaves.
Under the hood, however, the AKAI MPC Key 37 is just as powerful as its bigger sibling. With 32 gigs of internal memory, it comfortably holds all of your samples and drum kits. It even comes loaded with eight plugin instruments. In addition to the keyboard, you get 16 velocity-sensitive MPC pads and four Q-Link encoders for control. With excellent connectivity, including four CV/Gate outputs, MIDI, three pedals, Bluetooth, and WiFi, it’s got what it takes to run your entire setup.
The AKAI MPC Key 37 is now on sale at Thomann* for $799 / £769 / €885 – over 10% less than the initial price** back in February!
Novation MiniNova: Tiny Synth that Packs a Punch
Looking for a compact synth that fits in your hand luggage but still offers a seriously powerful sound engine? While it’s obviously inspired by the legendary microKORG, the Novation MiniNova has the edge in the synthesis department with 18 voices of polyphony, three virtual-analog oscillators per voice, loads of different filter types, and up to five effects per patch. In addition to a powerful arpeggiator, there’s a wonderful Animate feature that’s sure to jump-start your creativity.
But the MiniNova isn’t just a powerful synth in a tiny package – it also features a great-sounding 12-band vocoder with a gooseneck microphone. You can also run your voice through the built-in VocalTune effects. This makes the Novation MiniNova a great addition to any portable live rig!
The Novation MiniNova is currently 20% off** at Thomann*.
Yamaha SEQTRAK: Make Tracks Wherever you are!
Still too big for you? For a tiny production machine that you can pull out of your backpack wherever inspiration strikes, look no further than the brand-new Yamaha SEQTRAK. Despite its compact size, it offers everything you need to produce complete tracks. In addition to a drum machine with seven voices, the SEQTRAK offers three synth tracks. One of these holds a beautiful 4-operator FM synthinspired by Yamaha’s DX legacy. The other two synth tracks are based on AWM2 samples.
Furthermore, the Yamaha SEQTRAK includes a sampler that can record samples via USB, the built-in microphone, or the audio input. Perfect for sampling on the go! Everything comes together in the powerful sequencer. And with the ingenious touch controls on the right, you can control everything in real time. Not just for frequent travelers!
The Yamaha SEQTRAK is available in orange or black. You can now get it from Thomann* for $345 / £329 / €379. That’s about 5% less** than when it first came out in January.

They’re still making the Mininova, many years after they ditched the Ultranova. They still make the Bass Station 2. They still make the Microkorg. The Ultranova is ugly blue but beats ’em all. It does VA, wavetable, USB powered, a controller VST for your DAW, direct USB audio into DAW. But lawdy, lawdy, it’s an ugly blue synthesizer if ever we saw one.. 😎
