Synthfest 2022

The seminar and demo programme is starting to shape up for the Synthfest, which is back in person for 2022 at The Octagon in Sheffield on the 8th of October.

There are over 60 exhibitors so far, including some big names in synthesizers such as Roland, Moog, Korg and Arturia. But it will be much broader than that with the more boutique and specialist builders such as ASM, Dreadbox, Enjoy Electronics, Studio Electronics and Teenage Engineering. In modular, you’ll find stands from Expert Sleepers, Knobula, Moon Modular, AJH Synth and Allen Synthesis. There are plenty more stands to visit and products to experience.

In the seminar programme, we have “Synth Guru” Paul Wiffen talking about his career from programming the CS-80 for Vangelis through synth manufacturing and sound design. With a bit of luck, he’ll play his RGB Laser Harp. Tony Wride of Exclusively Analogue will be taking us through 50 years of the E-Mu Modular, which started back in 1972. Exclusively Analogue build a replica E-Mu modular called The Pioneer.

Lots more goodies to come! Tickets are available for £12.50 until August 31st, after which it’s £15. I plan to be there, and it’s always a really good time.

Modular Meets Leeds

And with some of the best marketing around Modular Meet Leeds returns to the Belgrave Music Hall and Canteen this weekend for two days of modular shenanigans.

On Saturday the 13th of August from 7pm to 11pm, there are performances from Richard Quirk BlueWolfSe7en & Jason Lim (Instruo). And generative artificial eco jazz from the Truth Table Trio. Sounds like a riot!

On Sunday the 14th of August from 12pm until 5pm we have a community-focused synthesizer hang out with manufacturers and modular enthusiasts showing their racks. There will be a performance from Scanner and demos from Instruo and Future Sound Systems.

It’s always a good time in a bustling venue that also has a rooftop bar and food downstairs. Entry to both events is completely free and there’s also a raffle where you could win yourself a bit of modular.

Not been to a synth exhibition since the British Music Fair at Wembley in 1988! My first one was at Olympia the year before.

Tickets ordered and looking forward to Oct 8th 👍

That sounds like the sort of thing you’d want in an article about an event – I’ve updated it (8th of October).
