SynthFest UK will have a Roland Boutique D-05 to play with
Roland are bringing a Boutique D-05 Linear Synthesizer to SynthFest UK in Sheffield this weekend. It will be the first UK appearance of the new reimaged D-50.
SynthFest UK
It’s probably the biggest synthesizer show in the UK. SynthFest UK was created last year by Sound On Sound magazine to showcase manufacturers, synth producers, modular wigglers and performers. Along with the all-important gear there are workshops, seminars, interviews and Q&A sessions with industry people and artists. It’s an opportunity to play on mainstream synthesizers from the big players alongside independent developers of synths and modular. On the Roland stand you’ll get to talk to a knowledgeable product specialist, but on an independent stand like Soulsby, AJH Synth or Analogue Solutions you’ll probably be talking to the guy who designs and builds their modules.
It’s a meeting of enthusiasts and like-minded lovers of electronic noises. The seminars include Martyn Ware from Heaven 17 and Human League, there’s a session on deconstructing the Dr Who theme, modular synth performances, weird and wonderful technological devices, and a VIP roundtable discussion.
It’s not to be missed and Roland have taken the opportunity to bring their new Boutique D-05 along so that we can all enjoy those 80’s tones.
Roland D-05
It’s a reimagining of the classic Roland D-50 Linear Arthimetric Synthesizer. Crammed into the Boutique’s rather petite form factor it will be interesting to actually get your hands on one to see how well it plays. No doubt the new SH-101 Boutique, the SH-01A will also be on show.
Big guns Korg, Moog, Arturia and Novation will also be there so you’ll be able to personally compare all their new synths.
SynthFest UK is on Saturday the 7th October at the Octagon Centre in Sheffield. Tickets are £15 on the door or £10 in advance.
