This T-Rex Binson Echorec Magnetic Disk Delay is a cloned modern-day recreation of the original. It uses two recording heads with short and long delays and has an adjustable drum speed of +/- 20%.
Along with four switchable playback heads, each with its own dedicated level adjustment. Users can also select between repeats and swells.
Plus, the Magic Eye vacuum tube indicator for input signal level on the front.
Development Time
Any GN readers with a good memory may remember that I wrote about this back during NAMM 2017 and it has taken 8 years in total to get this complex vintage effect into production.
This analogue effect is complex and the official image shared looks solid and very well made.
I’m looking forward to hearing more demos of this effect, as I’m a big fan of T-Rex products and love their attention to detail.
Products like the Replicator D-Luxe Tape Echo * are great tools for the studio.
Modern Updates
These modern recreations are all built in Denmark and have balanced I/O for studio applications. The unit also includes connections for external speed adjustment and bypass.
