Tangible Waves VMIX10: Volca focused 10 channel mixer
Tangible Waves, the makers of AE Modular, has gone out of the rack with the VMIX10 to produce a natty mixer for Volcas and other small synths.
VMIX10
This is a little unexpected from Tangible Waves but it’s a great idea that goes much further than Korg’s own Volca Mix. VMIX10 is the same size at a Volca and so will fit into the many cases and stands that are knocking around for people using multiples of these cool little Korg machines.
There are 6 mono channels and 2 stereo channels all with level control and mute buttons. The mono channels also have panning and send knobs for the 2 FX busses. FX 1&2 have mono sends and then return in stereo into the mix. The overall level is controlled on a master knob with a 5-segment LED meter and you also get a separate headphone output.
As with the Volca Mix, the VMIX10 can act as a power hub for up to 4 Volcas (the Volca Mix has 3) from a single 9v DC power supply.
At €145 it’s not badly priced and could be a useful little desktop mixer for more than the odd Volca. Tangible Waves are also releasing an AE Modular version without the power connectors but with both 3.5mm inputs and AE Modular patchwire connections. The modular version is €118.
You can order both of these now and expect delivery in a couple of weeks.

This is in all practicality the Vixen Mixer from KVGear (at least the desktop version). The only differences I see are the KV Gear had standard instrument jacks for the effects sends with the returns having separate left and right and 4 more power pass throughs for powering your volcas. I believe they discontinued their models due to lack of demand, I’m glad to see something is still filling this hole.
This is Mike from KVgear. To my eyes the VMIX-10 looks incredibly similar to the Vixen. It incorporates a few of the changes that I had planned to implement when I was considering a Vixen Mk2.
For the record, I discontinued the Vixen due to huge financial losses we suffered as a result of production problems. Demand for the mixer was much higher than what we could supply. But in order to fix the production problems we would have needed to do a major redesign; and I just wasn’t able to do that with my limited resources. It was best for us to focus on our core business of desktop synth stands.
I hope the VMIX-10 is successful for Tangible Waves. I’m glad that somebody is filling that niche.
Thanks for those insights Mike. I am a happy Vixen backer; I use it quite a bit with not only my Volcas, but many of my semi-modulars as well.
Looks useful for the Roland Boutique synths as well. It would be nice to see something similar but with USB power/audio inputs and outputs.
