TC Electronic PLETHORA X3 smaller, yet still feature packed
New compact multi-effect solution
The TC Electronic PLETHORA X3 combines three TonePrint effects at once, using the same system as the PLETHORA X5 just in a smaller package. With up to 127 boards, 3 pedal slots and 3 MASH footswitches.
PLETHORA X3
This new compact TC Electronic PLETHORA X3 offers a similar layout to the company’s PLETHORA X5. Just now you have access to three effects at once, rather than five. It has three slots available and you can treat these just like three individual pedals. There is space on board for up to 127 Boards, each with its own combination of the three effects, so you can switch quickly between combinations. It also can hold up to 75 TonePrint Slots, this allows you to try out various presets and load them directly into the unit.
TonePrint App
TC’s TonePrint App lets you edit and adjust the individual effects to taste. The TonePrint world also has lots of artist signature tones ready for download and use as well. And it’s all accomplished wirelessly via Bluetooth to your smartphone or iPad.
As with the last PLETHORA multi-effects, you have all the standard TC Electronics delays, reverbs and modulation effects, plus a looper and a tuner function as well. The total number of individual effects is 15 which is plenty to choose from. There are no analogue drive or distortion effects, it is all digital time based and modulation.

MASH
The pedal has three of TC’s MASH footswitches, and these operate as controllers to which you can map effect parameters. The harder you press the more they react, so you have an easy way to manipulate effects in real-time. Having the Tape Deck Looper means that players can experiment with looping and since it is based on the TC Looper range, it is as you would expect pretty well specified.
It’s smaller, so what is missing?
Being smaller than its predecessor the PLETHORA X3 is missing a couple of options. These include the effects loop and the expression pedal input. The unit has MIDI and a full stereo I/O section, which for such a compact pedal is perfect and makes it more flexible. I like that they have also included a speaker cab sim which will make this a great way to integrate into a lot of systems, perfect for recording and live work.
If you need a smaller footprint effects unit, then the new TC Electronic PLETHORA X3 *could be the perfect solution for you.
