The Technics EAH-AZ100 are a new pair of in-ear headphones announced at CES 2025 and available this month. Technically, the earphones have a lot going for them: magnetic fluid drivers, adaptive noise cancellation, Voice Focus AI and Dolby Atmos support promise a premium experience. Are they the best alternative to Apple’s AirPods?

The Technics EAH-AZ100 combine an ultra-thin aluminium diaphragm with magnetic fluid technology. This driver combines a magnetic fluid system with a thin free edge and an aluminium diaphragm.

The result is said to be minimal distortion and full bass. Details in the mid and high frequencies guarantee a high level of sound clarity – the manufacturer is clearly targeting people who are interested in premium products. The frequency range is specified as 20 Hz to 40 kHz (LDAC 96 kHz/990 Kbit/s).

ANC, Dolby Atmos With Head Tracking, LE Audio and More

Available in two colours, the new in-ear headphones have all the latest features. This includes ANC, which Technics claims is the industry’s best noise cancelling technology. That’s enough to make you curious – let’s see what the first tests show.

The built-in optimisation for Dolby Atmos, including Dolby Head Tracking, also sounds interesting. Nothing seems to prevent an immersive audio experience. The Technics EAH-AZ100 also offers support for LE audio. This is designed to minimise power consumption and latency while increasing bandwidth.

Bluetooth 5.3 supports the popular profiles and codecs SBC, AAC, LDAC and LC3. Multi-point connections are possible with up to three devices simultaneously, while multi-pairing supports up to ten devices.

Voice Focus AI sounds highly technical, but behind it are methods to reduce annoying background noise during phone calls as efficiently as possible. Not just when you talk, but also when you listen.

Battery Life and Other Specifications

The Technics EAH-AZ100 claims up to ten hours of battery life with ANC on, and 28 hours with the charging case. Wireless charging is available via Qi.

The Technics Audio Connect app is available for Android and iOS and can be used to check the battery level, select EQ profiles, adjust ANC or configure the touch sensors (for operation).

The headphones themselves are also splashproof (IPX4), so listening to music and making calls in the rain should be no problem, nor should a sweaty workout. Each earphone weighs 5.9 grams.
