The AMD-powered Lenovo ThinkBook 16p Gen 3 is a production-ready beast
Launched at IFA Berlin 2022, the Lenovo ThinkBook 16p Gen 3 is a 16-inch laptop with monster specs. Could this be the Windows-based music production station you’ve been waiting for?
This ThinkBook might not look like much, but it more than makes up for it with performance and connectivity. If you’re shopping for a laptop in this price range, you’re going to want it as future-proof as possible – so let’s get into some of the specs.
What sets the Lenovo ThinkBook 16p Gen 3 apart?
If you max it out, you can have an AMD Ryzen 9 CPU, 32GB LPDDR5 memory, 2TB PCIe Gen 4 SSD, and an Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060 GPU. As far as performance goes, this is more than most of us could ever need for DAW-based production or running Ableton Live on stage.
Connectivity includes USB Type-C and USB4 ports, two USB-A 3.2 Gen 2 ports, and an SD Card reader. You also have the good old mini-jack audio out, as well as Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.0 support.
The base display configuration is a 16-inch 2.5K IPS screen that can be upgraded to a higher spec one with a 165Hz refresh rate, 500nits, 100% sRGB, and HDR400. While not necessary for music production, this will certainly interest those planning to edit video footage.
The layout is simple, as you’d expect from Lenovo. However, at less than 2 kg it’s certainly lighter than most laptops of this size and
it’s under 20mm in thickness. This makes it easily transportable and a relatively innocuous part of your desktop setup when closed.
Pricing and availability:
The Lenovo ThinkBook 16p Gen 3 is currently available from the Lenovo online store, starting at $3,459
Overall, it’s an extremely pricey, high-end-performance laptop built for creative tasks like audio, content creation, and gaming. There are plenty of options in this price range so it obviously suits those that love the Lenovo way of doing things.
