The Cure bassist Simon Gallup gets three new Schecter models
Age and treachery will overcome youth and skill
The Cure bassist Simon Gallup has just had three new Schecter models announced. Including a new EMG-equipped semi-hollow Corsair, plus a refreshed Ultra Spitfire solid body. Each of the new models now sports a red finish and a lion graphic.
Schecter Simon Gallup
Simon Gallup’s basslines are synonymous with The Cure and his range of signature models has just been expanded.
He has the two Ultra Spitfire models, which look a little like a Non-Reverse Thunderbird and the semi-hollow Corsair model, which is similar to a Gibson EB-2.
Corsair
The semi-hollow Corsair has a 34” scale length and a Thin C neck profile, along with a 16” fretboard radius. Making it a fairly comfortable bass to play.
Hardware includes a tune-o-matic style bridge and a stop bar tailpiece.
Semi-Hollow
Construction consists of a double-cutaway archtop that has a maple body, with multi-ply cream binding, a three-piece maple neck and an ebony fretboard fitted with 20 narrow jumbo frets plus a set of Pearloid block inlays.
Active EQ
It now comes fitted with a pair of EMG TBHZ pickups that are paired with a preamp that is powered by a 9V battery. It has controls for a master volume, a blend control and a two-band active EQ.
MSRP – USD 1499
Ultra Spitfire
Next up is the Ultra Spitfire and this model is available in two versions. One is slightly more affordable and has a variation on the main lion graphic.
Lion & Rose
The one at $999 comes with a lion and rose graphic, and the other at $1,249, has the same lion graphic as the Corsair model above.
While on the back of the bass, it says – “Age and treachery will overcome youth and skill”
Both of the Ultra Spitfire models have a solid mahogany body.
Each versionis paired with either a mahogany/walnut ($999 version) or a maple/walnut ($1249 version) through-necks with a Thin C-neck profile.
The rosewood fretboard comes with 22 medium frets and has a Graph Tech XL Black Tusq nut
EMG TBHZ
They both come with the same EMG TBHZ with two volume and one tone controls. Hardware includes a tune-o-matic style bridge and a stop tailpiece.
It appears that the more expensive version also has a set of Grover tuners, whereas the more affordable version has Schecter-branded tuners.
MSRP – USD 1299 and USD 999
