The Geddy Lee Minimoog Model D – Two Great Legends Collide
Honouring the iconic Rush legend!
Two legends collide as Moog Music announces the release of a custom Minimoog Model D in honour of Geddy Lee, the legendary bass and synth player with iconic Canadian prog rockers, Rush.
Musical Giants
You don’t get much more iconic in the world of synthesizers than the classic Minimoog Model D. Equally iconic is one Mr. Lee of Rush. Up there in the pantheon of prog-rock bands, Rush are rock royalty and, as with many prog bands, loved by synth heads as much as traditional rockers.
Recently, he signed an original Minimoog Model D for the Bob Moog Foundation to auction. I wonder if this might have been the spark for this new project?
So it is very fitting that Moog Music has worked with him on a custom Model D that pays homage to his status amongst the gods of synth and rock. At first glance, it is a thing of real beauty. So, let’s take a look at what sets this apart from a stock Model D.

The Geddy Lee Minimoog Model D
First up is the striking cherry red case. This has been chosen to represent one of Rush’s most productive eras, centred around their ‘Grace Under Pressure’ album. Lee was always fond of custom-coloured instruments, and the red was chosen to evoke the shade used on classic automobiles.
On the opposite side of the iconic Moog logo is Rush’s immediately recognisable ‘Starman’ logo, which is also emblazoned on the rear. But there is more under the hood that differentiates this Model D from others.

The VCA has been “hot-rodded” (Moog’s description, not mine!) to deliver an enhanced, smoother and richer sound. There’s also aftertouch and a dedicated LFO along with MIDI integration.
Extras
This exclusive release is also accompanied by a 10″ vinyl record featuring Rush tracks ‘Xanadu’ and ‘Jacob’s Ladder’, an individually numbered certificate of authenticity hand-signed by Geddy himself, a collectable poster, commemorative manual and a special kraft gift box.
