The JJN-20R MkII is Blackstar’s latest collaboration with Jared James Nichols
Blackstar has collaborated once more with blues rocker Jared James Nichols to bring us the new limited edition JJN-20R MkII combo. Up until now, Nichols’ signature amp could only be purchased as a mini stack, with a separate head and cabinet. This new compact solution might be the perfect choice for those searching for the guitarist’s tone, but also trying to conserve space.
Jared James Nichols limited edition JJN-20R MkII
The new Blackstar JJN-20R MkII model comes in a 20-watt combo format and is based on Jared James Nichols’ signature Blackstar JJN-20R head. The combo has an ECC83 in the preamp section and two EL84 power amp tubes, and is loaded with a Celestion G12T-75 driver. Personally, I think that this new format is a winner. It just means having less stuff to lug around, should you want to go and gig with it. On the other hand, it should also take up less space in your home, which is always a bonus with instruments and gear.
The combo retains the panel layout of the original head, with a nice tan basketweave front, and is finished in racing green tolex.
Bluespower
You still get the two Clean and Bluespower channels of the original mini stack – with handy footswitchable voices – as well as an onboard studio-quality digital reverb. The built-in power reduction drops the power output down to two watts, making the amp very neighbourhood friendly. The combo also features a USB audio out and XLR D.I. out.
All round, this is a well spec’d little amp and may be popular among players who wanted the original, but didn’t have the space for a mini stack.
RRP – USD 729
