The Messiah second coming: a Prophet of virtual synthesis
He’s not the Messiah, he’s an emulation of the Prophet 5 (to paraphrase the Life of Brian). Messiah 2.0 is a brand new version of the Messiah Prophet 5 virtual instrument coded by Chris Kerry.
Messiah 2.0
We all ike a bit of Prophet 5 and Messiah certainly looks the part. Version 2 brings some improved oscillator quality, new filter models, better modulation, new effects and support for MPE. Behind the familiar front panel we find all sorts of advanced features and controls. It’s taken well over a year to develop and is now available on MacOS as well as Windows.
The oscillator resolution has been improved by a factor of 4 giving more body, more bass and better highs. The filter has been modelled after the rev 3 of the Prophet 5 and now has a ridiculous number of filter modes – Biquad LFP, HPF and BPF. MiniA, MiniB LPF, HPF, BPF. Funky: LFP, HPF. P5: LPF, HPF and BPF. The LFOs have been expanded with destinations such as PW, filter, amp and pan. The gate and arpeggiator section has been expanded up to 16 steps with on/off for each step and ties. The reverb is all new, the distortion has been enlarged and there are new delay options.
The MPE support is quite exciting and you can turn it on or off, but you do have to reload the GUI to make the change. You can also reverse the aftertouch and slide operation for ROLI keyboards.
There’s a brand new factory bank of presets totally up to 889 patches. There’s a converter for old version 1.3 patches. There’s also group presets for effects, gate and oscillator settings.
So an awful lot has gone into this update making it a pretty comprehensive homage to the Prophet 5 with it’s own growing technology and features.
Memorymoon Messiah v2 costs only $40 and it’s a free update to registered v1 users. There’s a free demo to download if you’d like to check out the sounds.
