The Neumann TLM 103 25 Years Edition is a dream for home recording
From one of the most respected manufacturers of microphone technology, the Neumann TLM 103 25 Years Edition is a celebration of one of the most popular microphones in the respected “transformerless microphone” series.
The design pays homage to the late 90s, with its almost futuristic galvanic nickel coating. It certainly comes across as the sturdy-looking studio workhorse we’ve known for all these years.
The Neumann TLM 103 25 Years Edition
Equipped with the K 103 large diaphragm capsule inspired by the same capsule found in the famous U87, the TLM 103 is known for extremely low self-noise and a wide frequency response. The 4 dB presence boost in the high-frequency range provides the glistening realism that we associate with this mic.
The beauty of the 103 is the fact that it’s a low-impedance device with a rating of 50 Ohms. This means it will even perform well running directly into the preamps of your interface, as Finneas did on the first Billie Eilish record, When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?
The mic also offers incredibly good isolation for a large diaphragm condenser, which allows you to use it in live recording situations with your studio monitors. Although, well-loved as a vocal mic, the 103 is also perfect on high-SPL sources like guitar cabs, brass, and drums.
Pricing and availability:
The TLM 103 25 Years Edition is currently available for preorder from Thomann at a price of $1,179. Please be aware this edition is limited to 500 pieces, so order now to avoid disappointment.
In the aluminium case, you’ll find the shock mount and a pair of black gloves to ensure your fingertips don’t mark the mic’s pristine surface.
