The Omar Rodríguez-López Mariposa: now available in a wallet-friendly Sterling by Music Man version
In two fantastic finishes
The Mars Volta and At the Drive-In guitarist Omar Rodríguez-López has a new Sterling by Music Man version of his signature Mariposa guitar. This more affordable version looks ace and packs in a lot of the cool features of the more expensive US made model.
Sterling by Music Man Mariposa
The new Sterling by Music Man Mariposa keeps the angular body shape of the US original. But to keep costs down, drops things like the laser-etched pickguard. Which, to be fair, isn’t a massive issue. And it makes this unique guitar shape available to more players.
Specifications
The guitar features a 25.5″ scale length, and has a nyatoh body. The roasted maple neck is attached using a 5 Bolt Pattern and has a 22-fret rosewood fretboard. It comes factory fitted with a pair of Custom Artist humbuckers, wired via a three-way toggle switch and two volume controls, one for each pickup. Hardware includes a set of locking tuners and a vintage tremolo.
The specs are not bad at all, especially when you consider the price point, which I think is pretty reasonable. This new Sterling by Music Man Mariposa model is available in either a Dorado Green or Imperial White finish, both of which look pretty sweet. I think the green wins it for me though, I’d happily rock one of these guitars in that finish.
If you are a fan of Omar’s angular playing style and want a guitar that has bags of character aesthetically, then this new wallet-friendly version could be perfect for you. I’m going to have to play ‘De-Loused In The Comatorium’ on my stereo today, as I really enjoy his playing on that album.
