The Softube Bus Processor gives you more than just glue
With the new Softube Bus Processor, you have all the power and flexibility you need to process your mix or individual buses and tracks within your DAW. Although the design is inspired by the famous SSL G-comp, Softube has added some additional features for tonal control, harmonics, and stereo imaging.
You can be sure that Softube received plenty of requests from users over the years to create an SSL-style bus compressor. So rather than rushing something generic onto the market, they’ve really done their homework and designed an impressive tool that goes far beyond simple dynamics processing.
What makes the Softube Bus Processor different?
The plug-in is divided into three main areas, namely the compression, saturation, and sidechain sections. The compressor controls seem familiar enough, but there are some added details worth noting.
Apart from the hard/soft knee control, the release control can be tempo synced to your project tempo within your DAW. So rather than dealing with milliseconds, you can set the release time with musical clock divisions. Also. the range knob limits the gain reduction to prevent over-compression.
Both the compressor and saturator have mix controls, and you can place the saturator pre or post-compression for added flexibility. Another added feature is the spatial processing section, where you can access the Air, stereo width, and mono bass crossover point controls.
The Bus Processor is modular by design, so you can individually activate or bypass the spatial processor, compressor, or saturation. The sidechain section offers extensive control, so you can precisely hone in on the frequency range you need to deal with.
Saturation is applied in two ways, with independent tone and harmonics processors so you can use it as subtly or aggressively as you like. Overall, Softube has hit a home run and delivered a plug-in with a very wide scope of uses.
