A MKII Lovetone Doppelganger? Hell yes!
The new Pulse Doppler Phase Shifter is the first design from ThorpyFx since Dan Coggins became a full-time member of the team. The all analogue phaser is a MKII version of the legendary Lovetone Doppelganger from the ’90s.
ThorpyFX Pulse Doppler Phase Shifter
Firstly, I’d like to state that I think that Dan Coggins and Adrian Thorpe are a match made in heaven. Both pedal designers are legends and when they work together, great things happen! Adrian’s ThorpyFX now has Dan Coggins, the man behind the ’90s boutique legendary Lovetone effects pedals, on board full time. So you know this new Pulse Doppler will be a classic.
Analogue Phase Shifter
These two electronic circuit wizards have taken the original ’90s Lovetone Doppelganger to create a MKII version, the new ThorpyFX Pulse Doppler. This fully analogue phaser has rotary controls for Depth, Rate, Blend, Enhance and Manual along with two toggle switches: Pulse with Normal/Invert and Dual, and two footswitches labelled On/Off and Vib/Phase. It is also a stereo pedal with both dry and wet outputs, so could be a lot of fun in the studio and, of course, in stereo rigs.
The ThorpyFX Pulse Doppler has 5 selectable modes via the two toggle switches, including Bi-Directional (figure of 8) and Dual Phasing. The second toggle selects between Inverted Phase, HPF Tremolo, and Additive Phasing Modes. This pedal will keep you busy for a very long time, and I reckon I would get lost in this, in a good way, for months!
It’s 1995 on steroids!
Taking the original 1995 Lovetone Doppelgänger Phaser/Vibrato further, and at a fraction of the cost the originals now sell for on the used market, I can see this pedal being a stone-cold classic.
