ThorpyFX The Dane MKII – Smaller and new clipping mode
More Compact Danish Pete Overdrive & Boost pedal
The new ThorpyFX The Dane MKII is a smaller version of the signature Danish Pete’ Honoré overdrive pedal. However, it loses nothing and actually adds a new clipping mode to the already great set of tones.
The Dane MKII
The ThorpyFX Dane MkII offers a more compact version of the drive and boost pedal. It is a pedal that has been in production for five years and is the signature model for Pete’ Honoré the well-known YouTube guitarist, or Danish Pete as he is also known.
Boost & OD
It has two sides which consist of what ThorpyFX describes as a complex light to medium gain overdrive on the left and a high headroom super clean boost on the right.
New Clipping Option
The latest version of the Dane still has two sides for Drive and Boost and now has the option to switch the Boost from the standard DP (Danish Pete) clipping to Heavier Clipping (HC), similar to the second channel of the Heavy Water pedal.
It now comes in a smaller, black anodised aluminium enclosure which is perfect for cramped pedalboard setups.
This new version is still going to allow users to set the boost so that it runs into the drive side. With three distinct tonal variations ranging from a nice clean boost all the way through to full-on and tasty fat saturation drive tones.
Old vs New
It looks and sounds like a smart update to this already popular drive/boost pedal and I’m sure it will be popular.
The standard version of The Dane is still available from Thomann if you want the full-sized pedal without that extra clipping mode.
Both sound great and it is going to be a tough choice deciding which one to buy. Especially, as both versions of The Dane are listed for the same price on the ThorpyFX site.
Either way, whichever version you decide to buy, I can pretty much guarantee it will be excellent, because Adrian Thorpe, the pedal designer is a genius.
