Jef’s Top 3 Bits of Guitar Gear and Gadgets at NAMM 2018
Wham Bam, Thank You NAMM
This year’s Winter NAMM Show had some pretty amazing new guitar products launched during the weekend of chaos that is the biggest music trade show of the calendar. Here are my favourite three released during the 2018 event.
Top NAMM Guitar Products 2018
The whole show was pretty jam-packed with new guitars, effects and amplifiers (both real and virtual), so there was a lot to choose from at this year’s Winter NAMM.
Helix HX
For me, the most interesting development was the long-anticipated new Line 6 Helix HX multi-effects unit, as it was the perfect combination of features, flexible and being amazingly compact as well. It made perfect sense to release the company’s effects algorithms in a more immediate ‘effects pedal’ format.
Fender Meteora
Love it or hate it, you have to admit it is different. The new Meteora model by Fender certainly ‘put the cat amongst the pigeons’ when we leaked it last month. I have to say that I think it was interesting to see the whole Parallel Universe Series of guitars that launched at this year’s NAMM, but for me personally, the Meteora resonated with me the most of the bunch.
I like its styling and think that by pushing the company’s ’50s and ’60s design legacy forward into the modern day, they have succeeded in making something new, vibrant and cool for 2018.
Plasma Pedal
The Game Changer Audio Plasma Pedal left a lasting impression on my somewhat ‘child-like’ mind. The whole concept of harnessing plasma into an effects pedal to drive a fuzz/distortion tone, just had my inner 12-year-old boy all excited.
I’m sure the whole Frankenstein style lightning effect was all it would take to get me and just about every over bloke on the planet interested, so they had me with that, just check the video below to see what got me all overexcited.
To be fair, it sounded pretty cool as well and now I really want to try one out myself.
