Christmas Gift Ideas For Guitarists!
Our Top 5 Christmas gifts guitarists actually want - instead of socks...
Yes, you all want either a ’59 Les Paul Standard or a pre-CBS Fender Stratocaster in a custom colour, but you know that isn’t going to happen. So when you get asked, “What do you want?” by your friends and family, you can reply with one of the following. Or if you’re looking for gift ideas for a guitarist, look no further!
Santa’s coming…
‘Tis the season to be jolly etc. Your nearest and dearest are all stuck for something to buy you this year (again). They wouldn’t know one end of a 25.5″ scale length neck from the other and have zero idea of what constitutes a useful present for a guitar player. Below are my Top 5 suggestions for something that could actually be useful, so feel free to forward the list to them. If you’ve been good this year, well then, you may actually receive one for a gift!
Cruz Tools
The Swiss army knife of guitar gadgets. This one is actually useful, well made and hopefully within the budget of your friends and family. It’s designed to make all those guitar-related jobs easier, giving your the perfect set of tools to get your instrument fettled and playing like the proverbial milk-based spread.
These can be ordered on the web, so if you live nowhere near a guitar store then you can order one in time for Christmas.
Thomann have the Cruztools GTMLT1 GrooveTech Guitar/Bass in stock for reasonable money here
Pickmaster Plectrum Punch
This nifty little gadget can turn any credit card-like plastic into a plectrum. So post-Christmas you can destroy that card once and for all – in a useful way! It’s a neat little gizmo and works a bit like a hole punch, except the hole results in a pick-shaped piece of plastic that you can strum your guitar with!
You can get them here
Blackstar ID:Core Stereo 10 V2
We recently mentioned these in an article last month and I think they could be the perfect Christmas gift for all the guitarists out there. These have a lot of amp for under a hundred pounds – and are a lot more fun than socks!
The whole package is neat and comes with a bundled DAW for all your recording needs, as well. It costs a little more than the first two ideas above, but of course, you’ve been really good all year and so you deserve it!
Big Bend’s Nut Sauce
Stupid name, but a great product. If you have never tried Nut Sauce, you should have! It lubricates your nut and any other point of contact for the strings on your guitar. This keeps everything slick, moving and – most importantly – in tune. It comes in various sizes and should fit easily into many budgets. If you use it sparingly a small tube should last all year round. I would highly recommend it and have been spreading it on my own nuts for years. You can find more details on Big Bend’s Nut Sauce here.
Oh, and it sounds filthy!
Guthrie Govan’s Creative Guitar – Cutting Edge Techniques – Volume 1
This is a great book for all players at all skill levels and really does a good job of breaking down guitar techniques and making the instrument fun. If you want to be a better player, ask for a copy of this book. If you master it, ask for Volume 2 for your Birthday! Mr Govan is one of the best players around and is also a great teacher, as well as a very humble man. Support him and buy his book! It’s a great read and it will help you become a more rounded player.
It’s published by Music Sales Group and it comes with a CD to accompany the book itself.
Available from most good bookshops
These are my Top 5 ideas for Christmas presents for guitar players. I nearly listed some guitar shaped teaspoons, but thought better of it. So you had better start dropping hints now and perhaps forward the list to your nearest and dearest. Or if you know a guitarist and need a stocking filler for Christmas this year, get one of these. Merry Christmas!
