Tracktion’s affordable multi-platform Waveform 9 DAW with new instruments
Tracktion has announced a major update to its Waveform DAW and production software. Version 9 undoubtedly includes enough enhancements and additions to justify the upgrade for many users. Tracktion’s goal with Waveform 9 isn’t being the next Pro Tools, but rather to provide a compelling piece of software which empowers musicians to create.
Among the new additions to Waveform’s arsenal are 24 exclusive drum construction kits that combine with the new Multi Sampler instrument; the aim here is to provide a workflow that’s faster and simpler. The drum kits can be easily chopped up and re-arranged with one-click import/slice functionality which is, according to Tracktion, a potent alternative to pre-made presets. Further along, there’s a new Modular Mixing Tool that’s supposed to let users customize Waveform’s interface for optimal control over the DAW functionality.
Waveform’s MIDI pattern generator now offers a global chord track, a custom plug-in faceplate designer, macro parameters, and track loops. Tracktion also added new modifiers alongside other enhancements to the track environment.
Streamlined and colourful, Waveform 9 looks like production software worth tinkering with. As always, the DAW remains very affordable at USD 59 for the basic version — in line with the pricing of Reaper. Furthermore, a 30-day trial version is available for anyone interested in trying out Waveform 9. It’s worth noting that Waveform 9 runs on Mac, Windows, and Linux systems, so Linux users have a viable DAW option.
The software is fully-featured with unlimited track count, third-party plug-in support, a suite of creative and audio effects, and there’s even Melodyne Essentials for basic, yet competent pitch correction. That’s quite the bang for the buck!
