UJAM Finisher Retro: Vintage sound at the twist of a knob
UJAM has released Finisher Retro, the latest plug-in in its Finisher series. Like the other Finisher plug-ins, Finisher Retro contains a full range of complex effects chains, all controlled by just a handful of knobs. But this time, the focus lies squarely on vintage sounds of the 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s.
UJAM Finisher Retro
After the previous installments NEO, VOODOO and FLUXX, UJAM has just released the newest member of the family, Finisher RETRO. Like the others, Finisher RETRO aims to make complex effects chains easy to use, giving you quick results with just a few twists of the plug-in’s knobs. UJAM says that it’s like having a full-blown pedal board and a well-stocked rack of effects at your disposal, all set just right for that vintage sound.
The effects chains beneath the surface are much more complex than the simple GUI reveals. According to UJAM, each mode gives you up to 20 interconnected effects modules. All in all, there are 50 modes, sorted by decades from the 60s to the 90s. They contain everything from classic reverbs and delays to flangers, tube saturation and even tape hiss.
All of this is controlled by just a handful of knobs. You can fine-tune the effects using the mode, rate, grit and color controls, and then dial up the intensity with the large Finisher knob in the center. No need to deal with setting up the complex effects chains yourself, and then having to fiddle with the controls of each individual effect.
Some purists will probably turn up their noses at this simplified approach. But sometimes you just need a certain sound or vibe quickly, and worrying about the details too much can really get in the way of your creativity. If you’re into retro sounds of past decades and like quick results, Finisher RETRO is definitely worth a look.
Price and compatibility
UJAM Finisher RETRO runs on Windows 7 or higher and macOS 10.11 or higher in VST, AU 2 and AAX formats.
The plug-in is now available for an introductory price of USD 69 (down from USD 99). If you already own one of the other Finisher plug-ins, there’s a loyalty offer for USD 49.

Tried the demo out and while there’s some fun effects, the CPU load is too heavy and the ‘analog’ modelling on the input can cause nasty crackling
