Union Audio elara.6: Configurable DJ Mixer With Innovative AP Strips
The Mixer can be Used With Rotary or Fader Controls
Union Audio elara.6 is a new mixer from the British manufacturer of high-end DJ equipment. The mixer can be configured with knobs or faders to suit your needs and has some very interesting features. These include the so-called AP strips or the unique processing of the stereo signal. Of course, all this comes at a price.
Union Audio elara.6 DJ mixer can be customised to suit your style
The new premium Union Audio elara.6 DJ mixer is designed for club installations and as a mixing console for professional DJs and live performers. This is reflected not only in its price, but also in its many innovative features.
The Union Audio elara.6 has four dual input channels, each equipped with a 4-band EQ and two aux sends. In addition, each channel has a dual cue, making it easy to do back-to-back sets, for example. Each channel also has a finely balanced fader with an ultra-linear curve.
The elara.6 is available as a linear fader or rotary fader mixer and can be reconfigured by installing optional fader plates. So you can decide if you want to mix with typical faders or rotarys.
What’s really cool, by the way, is that rotarys can be combined with a crossfader in one mixer – not many mixers offer this (the only one that comes to mind is the Omnitronic TRM-422*).
Exceptional Features for Creative Mixing
The two AP strips on either side of the four main channels of the Union Audio elara.6 are particularly interesting and suitable for exciting signal processing. AP stands for ‘Analogue Processing’ and each AP section offers a range of creative sound tools.
For example, there are filters that can be switched between high and low pass, with resonance and frequency controls. There’s also an active sidechain, which can be used to add subtle character to a mix – or, if you turn it all the way up, to add a fair amount of distortion while still maintaining clarity in the highs and stereo image. Amazing!
But it gets even more exciting: the Union Audio elara.6 features a MS Stereo Width control. MS in this case means ‘mid-side’ and the control processes the stereo signal of each track from mono to reverse stereo to an extended stereo width. This sounds like a nifty feature that, in combination with the filters and the drive control, opens up a whole new world of creative mixing possibilities.
For further audio processing, the output of each AP strip can also be routed to Auxiliary Send 1 before or after the AP ON switch, and then routed to an external effects processor.
The two mic/stereo returns also feature 4-band EQ with semi-parametric mids, two additional aux sends and a dual cue system. And the return channels can be reassigned to the AP system and the crossfader. Wicked!
The Union Audio elara.6 looks like a very creative DJ mixer, which with its special features should also be of interest to an electronic live act.
