Now you can record drums with the Universal Audio SD-3, SD-5, and SD-7 mics, equipped with Hemisphere Microphone modelling technology.
Universal Audio has expanded the Standard Series with an all-new range of dynamic microphones. The three new mics are built for recording drums and other instruments such as percussion and amp cabinets.
Universal Audio SD-3, SD-5, and SD-7
Each of the three microphones has a unique feature set, with cardioid, supercardioid, and hypercardioid pickup patterns. With their sturdy metal designs, the mics offer high-SPL handling and great off-axis rejection.
In addition, the included Hemisphere microphone modelling software is available natively on MacOS and Windows, as well as for the Apollo DSP hardware systems.
Moreover, its library gives you a range of 32 legendary dynamic, condenser, and ribbon mics to choose from. Also, the software allows you to make post-production adjustments to microphone settings like the roll-off filter, off-axis response, and the proximity effect.
SD-3
The SD-3 is a compact but rugged microphone with extremely high SPL handling, designed for snare drums, toms, guitar amps, and brass instruments.
With its cardioid pickup pattern, the SD-3 offers great isolation. This makes it an excellent choice for drum kit configurations. The SD-3 is available in a 3-pack as well as separately, including a zip-up storage pouch and stand mount.
SD-5
Now, you can swap out your kick drum mic in post-production with the SD-5 and its Hemisphere mic modelling software. With this supercardioid dynamic mic, you can capture kick drums and other low-end instruments like a bass amp or cajon.
Once again, the metal Standard Series studio-ready construction makes the SD-5 a formidable addition to your mic locker. What’s more, its low impedance rating means you can run it directly into most audio interfaces.
SD-7
The SD-7 is a hypercardioid dynamic mic designed for capturing toms, guitar and bass amps, as well as brass and percussion instruments.
From Sennheiser dynamic mics like the MD-421 and the MD-441 to the Beyerdymic M 160 that captured the famous ‘John Bonham’ drum sound, the SD-7 provides incredible versatility with the accompanying Hemisphere software.
