[25 March 2025] With the update to version 2.4, the Avenger 2 software synthesizer from Vengeance-Sound once again gets a lot of new and interesting features that should appeal to both sound designers and music producers. At the heart of the new version is a revised arpeggiator mode, now called “Custom”, which allows for completely free pattern design. But that’s not all!

Vengeance-Sound Avenger 2 – the Main Features at a Glance

  • Improved and smoother user interface
  • Spectral Granular Module
  • New modules for creating melodies
  • Improved browser with new preview function
  • New drum module with new drum loops
  • Many new presets

Avenger 2.4 is Now More Complex – But Also More Musical

With the new Custom Arpeggiator, you can now not only define which sequence is played, but also create polyphonic structures that offer a much more creative alternative to the classic Up, Down or Alternate modes. Sounds like a lot of fun! This feature allows you to achieve a previously unattainable rhythmic depth, especially in more complex electronic productions, which can give your track a clearly defined pattern of movement. Check out the video below to learn more about this new feature.

But not only the arpeggiator has been expanded, Avenger’s effects section has also been enhanced. The Ruta Chorus is an effects module that is not limited to chorus-like modulations, but can also be used as the basis for individual reverb or flanger effects. This openness in design is also evident in the new Ruta Distortion, which offers four different algorithms for medium, warm distortions that are particularly suitable for chord progressions or bass lines. The addition of the Phase Puncher, which works with up to 64 (!) serially connected phaser instances, is aimed specifically at sound designers who rely on powerful, percussive impulses. Especially psychedelic basslines or experimental attack structures can now be realized even more precisely with this function.

With Math/Increment for Dynamic Sounds Per Voice

Another new feature is the “Math/Increment N vc” modulation source, which can be used to generate voice-specific values. Each new voice cycle receives an individually calculated value that can be used as a modulator for parameters. This form of modulation opens up new possibilities for moving sound progressions that behave differently with each keystroke – a clear gain for dynamic sound architecture. In addition, the Sound Preview has been enhanced to allow you to specify octave position, note length and chord type. This not only saves time when selecting sounds, but also ensures a more consistent organization of your own libraries.

The Avenger update is rounded out by a host of new content, including 70 fresh arpeggiator presets programmed specifically for the new custom mode, as well as 50 new Q4ntum presets from the mind of Manuel Schleis. The effects section has also been expanded with additional presets that should prove especially useful during creative production phases. A small but important change has been made to the arpeggiator’s context menu: the option to load subpatterns directly has been removed, but can still be used via a keyboard shortcut. Finally, in addition to a number of bug fixes, a timing issue with the AMP envelope has been fixed, resulting in a more precise attack phase for kicks and percussion.

Vengeance-Sound Avenger 2.0 Software Synthesizer – Reviewed!

[24 November 2023] Vengeance-Sound presents Avenger 2.0, the next major version of their flagship software synthesizer. Fresh GUI, new effects, interesting new features – a great all-in-one package for sound designers. Here comes my check-up! PS: For a short time at an introductory price!

Vengeance-Sound releases Avenger 2.0 – the new features

After more than four years of intensive development, the new version Avenger 2.0 from Vengeance-Sound offers a multitude of new, outstanding features and a completely improved user interface. Among the most interesting new features is the Spectral Granular Module, which allows unprecedented sound manipulation. Equally impressive is the new Drum Loop module, complemented by an extensive library of 1500 drum loops.

Avenger 2.0 also offers ratchets for ARPs, allowing you to create complex and dynamic patterns. In addition, parallel filtering allows for even finer sound design. In addition, an innovative pitch quantizer and ARP randomizer allow for modular and random melody generation. A host of new effects and reverbs further expand the sonic possibilities.

More Information

The improvements in Avenger 2.0 don’t just extend to the features. The redesigned GUI, which now runs at 60 fps, contributes to the improvement, as well as improved stability, increased CPU efficiency and faster loading times. It all adds up to a new level of usability and performance. The new Factory Library with 250 presets rounds out the extensive feature set. Doesn’t that sound promising? What do you think?

I was able to test the software synthesizer in my studio in advance (thanks to Vengeance-Sound).

Installing the Software

The installation file for Avenger 2.0 is downloaded using the in-house V-Manager software. You can also use this application to authorize the synthesizer for your computer (where the application and the plug-in are running). All of this went very smoothly and was very easy to do on my Mac studio. You can use this download manager to download all the other preset packages to your hard drive. But be careful: the factory presets contain over 6 GB of data. If you don’t have enough space on your internal hard drive, you can always use an external hard drive.

More Information

Owners of the previous version should not be alarmed, as the installer will overwrite the VST/VST3 versions of V1 with the new plug-in output. This means that when the VST/VST3 plug-in “Avenger” is loaded, Avenger 2.0 is automatically started. The good news is that all the settings from version 1 of your old music projects will be transferred to V2. Sounds like a smooth transition!

Improved Workflow in Avenger 2.0

The user interface of Avenger 2.0 does not seem to have changed much. However, everything looks more modern and “feels” better. Very cool is the new preview function in the browser, which now plays a preset as a melody line or single sound directly after selecting/clicking on it. This definitely makes working with the synth more fluid. This is an absolute time saver, especially if you have a lot of expansion packs installed. But the clearer GUI also provides more overview and clarity when working with presets and, of course, when designing new sounds.

Avenger 2.0 as a Sound Design Machine

Of course, this synthesizer has been well known in sound design circles since version 1 and can be used perfectly in many genres of music. It quickly joined the ranks of the extremely well-known and popular software synthesizers Serum, Diva and Pigments. And rightly so. A big advantage of Avenger 2.0 is its “all-in-one” concept. You can place multiple sounds freely on the keyboard in a single plug-in instance and even generate the matching drum tracks at the same time. This makes working fun.

More Information

The new features expand the possibilities even further with more detailed settings for some parameters, such as a mix ratio for the filters and a new multi-delay called Q4ntum. There are also new creative features for creating really crazy melodies and bass lines. But what I really like about Avenger 2.0 is the new Spectral Granular module. It creates really interesting new sounds and works incredibly well on pads. You should use automation or a modulator to set the module’s master controller in motion. This makes the sound extremely lively. It’s really fun! The effect also works well on other instruments. You should definitely give it a try.

Conclusion

For me, Avenger 2.0 by Vengeance-Sound is a really successful update of the previous version. If you would like to have more features besides the new ones, please tell us what you can’t do/create with this synthesizer. I myself am completely satisfied with this plugin. In addition, there are countless sound packs (for various music genres) that are already available and can be purchased from professional sound designers in the Vengeance Sound Shop.
