Victory Amps V4 turns up the gain with Countess, Sheriff and Kraken preamps
New V4 preamps launched
Victory Amps announced three new preamp pedals during NAMM that puts the preamp stages of four of its amps into a pedal format. The Countess, Sheriff and Kraken preamp pedals are now on the market and might provide some interesting ways to expand your amp’s core tone.
Victory V4 Preamps
The three preamp pedals each have two channels and four NOS tubes. The idea is to give you a way of replacing your amp’s own preamp section, giving you more options tonally. Ideally, you won’t hook these up to your standard amp input, but use the FX return instead.
But there is also an amp-through mode with a special feature: If the pedal is on, it goes directly to the power amp – if it’s off, you drive the amp’s own pre-amp as usual. A real second channel, so to speak. That’s very cool for single-channel players looking to add another channel and expand the tone options available.
Triple Threat
The Countess is the more reserved of the three preamps, with a Clean and Dirt Channel. The Sheriff is a Plexi-style circuit, making it the ‘rock machine’ of this trio. The Kraken provides more gain and compression and should feel very comfortable with Heavy Rock or Metal.
Each one is based around one of Victory Amps existing amplifier circuits. So if you’re a fan of those tones, you won’t need to lug around a massive amp to get them. I really like this range and there’s probably something for everyone here. It all seems well thought out and very decently priced in my humble opinion.
RRP – GBP 349
