Vox AC2 RhythmVOX mini guitar and bass amps – More power for your money
Twice the power of the old AC1 and packed with beats
Another new release from Vox! Hot on the heels of the Adio Air announcement came news that Vox has updated its AC1 mini amp to the new AC2 Rhythm VOX mini guitar and bass amps, which now offer twice the wattage as well as three amp sounds, five effects and 81 rhythm patterns as well.
RhythmVOX AC2
Now, with two Watts of output these mini amps certainly pack in a lot considering their small format. You get three amp sounds, namely Clean, Crunch and Lead on the guitar version or Normal, Flat and Scoop on the bass variant of the amp. Five built in effects complement these amp tones, including, Chorus, Delay, Reverb, Chorus + Delay, Chorus + Reverb.
Then there’s a whole slew of rhythms built-in, including up to 81 variations on the following rhythm styles: 8 Beat 1, 8 Beat 2, Accent, 16 Beat, 6/8 Beat, Dance, Heavy, Soft, Metronome.
Mini-amps
Six AA batteries give you enough power for up to 20 hours of play time, which should be enough for your extended jams on the sofa. Of course, you can also run the AC2 from an external power supply if needed. The amps also include a basic tuner that can tune your bottom E string and have basic onboard controls for Gain, Tone and Volume.
I think the mini amp market has become quite crowded over the last few years. The Blackstar Fly has probably made things more competitive, as it upped the ante and become a favourite for many players (myself included). But on paper, this new mini amp from Vox has a lot to offer for the price and could be one to check out if you have not yet dived into the world of mini amps. They look really cute and have that classic Vox look, so you could always just have one on your desk and keep it as an ornament – albeit a noisy one that is a lot more fun than a set of Newton’s Balls!
