Walrus Audio trumpet their new Warhorn Overdrive pedal
A 'mid-focused' overdrive that includes two clipping modes
Walrus Audio has announced a ‘mid-focussed’ overdrive pedal called the Warhorn, a supposedly ‘transparent drive’ featuring two types of clipping.
Transparency is a term that is used a lot these days, and here it seems to mean keeping your guitar’s tone intact, yet making it sound overdriven. The Warhorn has two clipping options for the overdrive tone, each with its own character, with the aim of giving you a more versatile ‘mid-focussed’ overdrive. The Symmetrical option has more obvious compression compared to the more open-sounding Asymmetrical setting.
Don’t expect huge amounts of gain from the Warhorn, but be prepared to tweak the Level, Drive, Bass and Treble controls to set up your tones, and there seems enough control to produce a wide range flavours here. The unit is, of course, true-bypass and so won’t mess with your guitar’s signal when not engaged.
Walrus Audio do have a good track record, and I hope the Warhorn will succeed in the attempt to offer a more ‘transparent’ drive. There is an official demo video below, so be sure to check it out and see what you think.
Free hat, anyone?
Due out on March 14th, you can order the Warhorn directly from the Walrus Audio site here. For some bizarre reason, you also get a free hat with every pre-order of the pedal…
Warhorn Overdrive RRP $199 plus shipping/taxes
