Walrus Audio Voyager MKII: The History
Walrus Audio is launching the Voyager MK II, an updated version of one of its most popular pedals. The original, released in 2011, was called the Voyager. One of Walrus Audio’s first pedals, the Voyager quickly became a favorite among legends like Joe Bonamassa, Ed O’Brien, and Nels Cline.
While the Voyager was simple in terms of controls—just gain, volume, and tone—many guitarists were drawn to it because it made anything sound better in a very musical way. And it put the company on the map. Now it’s time of an upgrade with the Walrus Audio Voyager MKII.
Flexible Design
The Walrus Audio Voyager MK II is a midrange overdrive/preamp that builds on the original model’s strengths while adding new features. It adds clarity at lower gain settings and transforms into a rich, powerful overdrive at higher gain settings.
One of the best new features is the foot-switchable parametric mid-frequency EQ with a boost/cut range of +/-12 dB. The frequency controller allows you to set the center frequency from 250 Hz to 2 kHz, tuning your signal to any guitar and pickup combination. This lets you shape and refine your sound according to your playing style.
Creative diode clipping
The pedal also comes with a five-way rotary switch that lets you select different diode clipping options. Here are the different modes you can try:
- Classic 1N34A germanium diodes (most compressed) – the original Voyager sound.
- Classic 1N34A germanium diodes with bass boost – for more depth.
- Symmetrical silicon diodes – open and dynamic sound.
- Asymmetrical silicon diodes – least compressed, open, and slightly distorted.
- Asymmetrical silicon diodes with bass boost – slightly distorted sound with additional bass.
The mid-range EQ adjusts to each mode to set the perfect amount of gain. Whether you want smooth overdrive or powerful distortion, you’ll find it here. Walrus Audio has also made a few updates on the exterior, including top-mounted jacks and soft-touch relay switches. In addition, they’ve added true bypass functionality.
How much does the Walrus Audio Voyager MKII cost?
The Voyager MK II comes in two variants, green and black. The inner values are the same for both. Each pedal costs €279.00 at Thomann*.
