Warwick Leland ‘Lee’ Sklar Masterbuilt signature Bass I
The Warwick Leland ‘Lee’ Sklar Masterbuilt signature Bass I has been officially announced and is based upon the Warwick Starbass II Doublecut.
Leland Sklar
Mr Sklar knows a thing or two about playing the bass and has played on so many sessions in his career that I doubt he can remember them all! He is a living legend in the professional music world. Lee has been playing Warwick bass guitars for a number of years now. Last year he announced via YouTube that he was working with Warwick on a signature model with some of his personal tweaks.
It will feature a mahogany body with a AAA flamed maple top and his unique, ergonomic armrest shaping, which he requested as he often sits down between 8-12 hours on sessions and so wanted the bass to be comfortable when doing so. The flamed maple neck also has a matching AAA flamed maple top headstock.
Producer Switch?
This bass is loaded with MEC Vintage active single-coil pickups controlled by Volume, Bass, Treble and Balance controls. There’s also a ‘Producer switch’, whose function isn’t clear, but as Lee wanted it, we’ll assume it’s useful…
Below is the YouTube video I mentioned earlier where Lee talks about his design and how he selected the features for his signature model. It’s not cheap and probably I suspect it will be hard to get hold of, but if you are into it or Mr Sklar’s playing style then I’m sure you’ll want to check one out yourself.
RRP €8,439
