Waves SuperRack LiveBox: Use VST3 Plugins for Live Mixing
The new Waves SuperRack LiveBox is a hardware plugin host that lets you use VST3 plugins from Waves and other manufacturers for live mixing. Mix live concerts, events and broadcasts using your favorite VST3 plugins – with ultra-low latency and MADI/Dante connectivity.
Waves SuperRack LiveBox
According to Waves, the new SuperRack LiveBox (which the manufacturer will presumably showcase at NAMM 2024) is a “turnkey device that’s quick and easy to set up in any live setting”. The 2U rack-mountable box contains a computer that runs Waves’ SuperRack Performer audio plugin host. This allows you to use VST3-compatible plugins (from Waves and other developers!) for your next live mixing job.
Waves claims that the SuperRack LiveBox offers ultra-low latency and requires no complex setup, both of which are of course key in live situations. Or, as Waves puts it, “simply hook up the LiveBox to your console and start mixing”. The device connects to your digital mixer via Dante or MADI. It’s also got dual power supplies for redundancy – if one fails, the other automatically kicks in.
The plugins themselves run inside the Waves SuperRack Performer plugin, which has been available for a few years and is compatible with a wide variety of popular live desks from Allen & Heath, Behringer, PreSonus, Soundcraft, SSL, and others. However, it used to be limited to Waves plugins only. The fact that Waves has now opened it up to VST3 plugins from any manufacturer is a big step forward. If you’ve always wanted to integrate VST plugins into your live or broadcast mixing workflow, the new Waves SuperRack LiveBox looks like a compelling solution.
