Wavesfactory Cassette: classic cassette tape sound for your DAW
Feeling a bit nostalgic? Wavesfactory Cassette brings the classic sound of cassette tapes to your DAW. The plug-in offers a plethora of adjustable parameters for fine-tuning the sound. Is this the most ambitious compact cassette simulation yet?
Wavesfactory Cassette
Plug-ins that emulate the multitrack studio tape recorders from the golden age of recording are plentiful, with offerings from IK Multimedia, ToneBoosters, Softube and Overloud, to name just a few. And for those authentic lo-fi cassette vibes, we’ve got SketchCassette and Klevgrand DAW Cassette, which is based on the WebCassette browser app. Wavesfactory is adding another option to this list, and its new Cassette plug-in looks like it could be a serious contender.
The plug-in lets you choose the type of cassette, complete with a very stylish, photo-realistic graphical representation. The look of this thing will take you right back to the glorious days of chrome, metal, high-speed dubbing and Dolby B. The vertical VU meters for the input and output levels are also styled like an old portable tape recorder.
You can select pro, home and micro options for the sound quality. For fine-tuning the simulation, Cassette offers controls for erasures, spread, stability, two types of noise and artifacts. Click the button for the advanced settings, and you get detailed control over all the plug-in’s parameters, including wow and flutter, degradation and crosstalk. This means that Cassette should be able to simulate anything from the best hi-fi cassette recorders with premium tapes to that worn-out mixtape on a cheap portable player. Ah, the good old days!
Price and compatibility
Wavesfactory Cassette is available for Windows 7 and up and Mac OS X 10.7 and up in VST, VST3, AU and AAX formats (64 bit). The introductory price is EUR 29, down from EUR 59.
