An Overrated Overdrive Special and modded Blue Hippo chorus in one stompbox!
Way Huge and Joe Bonamassa have just announced the new Penny Saver Royale Modulation and Overdrive pedal that combines two classic effects into one signature stompbox.

This latest collaboration between Joe Bonamassa and Way Huge’s Jeorge Tripps will be made available via Joe’s online store and features both overdrive and modulation. The idea behind the Penny Saver Royale is to combine two existing pedal circuits, Bonamassa’s own Overrated Special Overdrive and Way Huge’s Blue Hippo Chorus pedal.

Overdrive & Chorus
Culled from the Overrated Overdrive Special – itself built around the Green Rhino overdrive – the Penny Saver Royale’s overdrive features a ‘souped up’ Green Rhino with more midrange. Controls consists of Volume, Drive, Tone and Frequency, making it nice and simple to work with. The chorus side is taken from the Blue Hippo analogue chorus which goes from subtle to rotating speaker type modulation tones. It has Speed and Depth knobs and has a delay time specifically tailored to Bonamassa’s taste.
Overall, the combined pedals make a lot of sense. This could be a neat all-in-one solution for many players. The pricing for two boutique pedals in one enclosure is probably about right. I own loads of Way Huge pedals and I can attest to the quality of Jeorge Tripps’ work. It’s excellent in terms of both circuit design and physical robustness.
