WesAudio ngTubeComp: A Digital Fairchild?
A flexible vari-mu compressor with plugin control.
The WesAudio ngTubeComp is a high-end tube compressor with digital plugin control and recall for professional mixing and mastering workflows.
The innovative Polish manufacturer WesAudio has expanded its NG (Next Generation) line of high-end digitally controlled processors with the ngTubeComp, where the worlds of pure analogue and digital flexibility collide.
WesAudio ngTubeComp
Like the Manley Variable Mu and the famous Fairchild, the ngTubeComp is a vari-mu tube compressor that can be used for tracking, mixing, and mastering. With six tubes and four transformers used in the design, WesAudio has achieved a balance of a high dynamic range (26 dBu headroom), a wide tonal range, and modern reliability.
There are three basic ways to use the ngTubeComp: the basic linked stereo mode for bus processing, the dual mono mode for tracking or processing individual instruments, and the mid-side mode for making more precise adjustments with a spatial approach.
With two output stages, you can choose between the clean sound from the electronically balanced output, or the warmth of the tube circuitry and Carnhill transformers with the IRON PAD control. Meanwhile, you can also add tube saturation and Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) to colour and shape your sounds.
There are also multiple compression modes, including the classic Feedback mode (Fairchild), the more modern Feedforward mode, as well as a Limit mode. To give you precise control over the compressor’s behaviour, the sidechain filter section has a listen feature, a high-pass filter, and a high-shelf boost.
When you combine the depth of analogue processing features with the precision and flexibility of software control, the ngBusComp is a formidable unit worthy of its price and place in any of the top recording, mixing, and mastering facilities around the world.
