Will it Chug? Solar Guitars launches first pedal
Ola Englund's guitar brand branches out into stompboxes
Solar Guitars has been in business for nearly 5 years. And today they have launched the first effect pedal. The Chug offers exactly what you would expect and has plenty of gain on tap, plus an extensive EQ section and a built-in noise gate.
Will it Chug?
Solar Guitars Chug pedal is designed to give players plenty of tight amp-like gain. The ‘High Gain Pre-amp’ pedal has controls for Low-Frequency Gain, High-Frequency Gain and Gain-Output. Which gives guitarists access to a lot of added gain and then some.
The pedal also features a 5-band EQ section, with Bass, Middle, Treble, Depth and Presence controls.
Signal Path
The signal path of the Chug starts by passing through a network of High-Frequency and Low-Frequency filters. Players can also add a lot of gain and overdrive here.
The extensive EQ section I mentioned above has the standard Bass, Middle and Treble control. The Depth and Presence allow for a more amp-like feel from this pedal. Stacked pots allow them to squeeze in a lot of control without cluttering the front panel.
Noise Gate
Finally, the Noise Gate section is fed by the input signal. This is shown working by the change in colour of the LED, which is then followed by the output. And that works like a master volume on an amp.
The pedal runs from an external power supply (not included) and requires a 9VDC 100MA minimum. It looks really nicely built and pretty bomb-proof in the solid metal enclosure.
Ola Englund is known for his “Will it Chug” YouTube videos and I have to say the answer here is most certainly, “Yes it will!”
