Xodoi: A granular drone cloud from Puremagnetik
Xodoi is a drone and texture generator from Micah Frank designed in his elegantly familiar style. It offers FM synthesis, dual oscillations and granular soundscapes.
Xodoi
It starts as a primitive FM engine that lets you morph between carrier and modulator waveforms. This conjures up a lot of movement and modulation which gets analysed and decoupled into tiny grains of sound through the granular processor. You control the depth and density of the textures and how much gets reflected back into the granular cloud.
I really like this simple way complex forms of synthesis are presented in Puremagnetik instruments. Somehow all the possible parameters are translated to a simple and beautifully drawn interface that never feels busy even though it includes a crib sheet on what everything does.
It’s the sort of synthesizer where you just play with parameters in gentle and meaningful ways. Pump it into a huge reverb and delay and you’re sorted for hours of mystical levitation.
Xodoi is part of the Spark subscription where for $9 a month you get a constant stream of new and interesting plugins. After a month or two, it gets released for $20 without a subscription.
