Yamaha STAGEPAS 1K mkII and DXL1K: portable column array PA systems
Yamaha introduces two new PA systems: the STAGEPAS 1K MkII and the DXL1k. Tempted by a modern, all-in-one, portable column array PA system? Well maybe these new releases from Yamaha, might be worthy of your attention…
Yamaha STAGEPAS 1K mkII and DXL1K
You can’t help but have noticed just how popular portable, column array PA systems have become. All the major players have stepped up to offer their take on the original Bose L1 concept. Now, Yamaha has revised and updated their original STAGEPAS 1K to join the party, too! Additionally, there’s a new, stripped-back version, the DXL1K.
Both the STAGEPAS 1K mkII and DXL1K follow the classic formula: a powered subwoofer section containing an amplifier and mixer with a high-mid column array. The STAGEPAS 1K offers extensive app-enabled mixing (more on that in a moment) whereas the DXl1K is a simple two-channel affair.
Interestingly, you can interlink and combine the two systems; ideal if you want to expand your mono rig into stereo, for example!
Tech Specs
Both systems offer you a built-in Class D power amplifier offering 1100 watts and 125 dB SPL. Both systems consist of ten 1.5-inch tweeters and a compact 12-inch bass reflex subwoofer. As you’d expect from a column array, coverage is superb with an area of 170 degrees (horizontal) by 30 degrees (vertical).
As already mentioned, the STAGEPAS 1K mkII features an optimized STAGEPAS controller. You’ll get app control (Android/iOS) of the 1-knob EQ and parametric 4-band EQ. The app also allows you Scene Recall for individual songs or setups; undoubtedly a real time saver! There are also onboard SPX effects for a true “all in one” solution.
Good Value?
From the pricing we’ve been given, Yamaha is aiming the STAGEPAS at a premium marketplace. The STAGEPAS 1K mkII should cost 1600 euros, with the simpler DXL1K is available for 1344 euros. That not only puts it up against the original Bose L1 but prices it above the segment leader. Yamaha must be very confident of the STAGEPAS’ performance!
We’ll get to find out if reality meets expectations when the STAGEPAS becomes available in the fourth quarter of 2022.
