Yellowcake Pedals induces Psychotropia, a trippy kaleidoscope of sound
A wonderfully organic boutique sample/hold filter effect
The latest boutique effect from Yellowcake Pedals is called the Psychotropia. This pedal has some seriously trippy tones and might be able to induce trance-like states when pushed to extremes.
Yellowcake Pedals Psychotropia
The Psychotropia is a sample/hold filter effect with a glide knob option that interacts with a toggle switch for rising, falling or both waveforms.
There’s a Hi/Low EQ cut that seems to interact with the sample and hold pattern. You also get a Log toggle switch that activates a function to soften or round the edges of the random pattern.
Psychotropic Tones
The Psychotropia also has controls for Cut, Tap-Tempo and a Rate for on the fly adjustment. The Res control lets you set the amount of resonant feedback oscillation. All that has the potential for a very organic-sounding and trippy tone box.
The pedal has a CV input and output for external triggering. It’s also true-bypass, so it won’t mess with your guitar signal when it is not engaged. You have to hear it in action really, so I would recommend the demo video below to do just that.
It reminds me a little of the filtered guitar tone on the beginning of Bowie’s Wild Is The Wind. I’m a huge fan of Yellowcake Pedals and I think they make some truly sumptuous effects. This one seems well worth checking out. You can order directly from Yellowcake Pedals from he link below or from select dealers.
