ZenZero 2KP Pre-amp and booster pedal: More than a one trick pony?
When two knobs are better than one!
Handmade in Japan by an Italian, the new ZenZero Electronics 2KP, also known as the two-knob pony, looks to be a versatile preamp and boost pedal. Tzhat’s surprising given its simple control layout of – yes, you’ve guessed it – two knobs.
Two knobs are better than one
Okay, I’ve run out of knob gags, but essentially the 2KP uses a twin control layout yet seems to achieve a high degree of flexibility. The effect is MOSFET based and is designed to integrate well with your guitar’s volume control and your amp.
Simple yet effective
According to the manufacturer, the clean boost is also good at dirty, high-gain fuzz in the higher gain stages. When placed after a Tube Screamer-type pedal, it can function like a high-gain distortion. I’m not sure I would want a high-gain distortion with a TubeScreamer ‘mid hump’, myself. Horses for courses, I suppose.
I would suggest watching the video below to get a feel for what the 2KP can do and make up your own mind on this one. The pedal does sound pretty good judging by the demos. But it’ll probably sound better with a decent valve amp, so this one might be for you boutique pedal gearheads and avowed tone-chasers.
RRP $139 plus shipping and taxes
